OMG!! YOU DON’T HAVE TARGETS?


We hear so many times the targets that need to be achieved. Target you can say as goal, as an objectives or as an aim.


Even when the children are small, their parents tell them what should they become in the future and that influences many of the children’s in days ahead. These children’s then focuses to achieve what their parent’s expectations are. Once they grown up many of the children’s become what their parents told them. That’s the target I am referring about here.

Alike these family oriented targets, it is also too important to set the goals in small business world. We always hear and also set targets to achieve at the beginning but after setting targets we forget to take evaluation measures and this ultimately results in low returns or even negative returns.

I am adding targets along with control and feedback options because setting just targets is not enough if there are no control or feedback mechanisms.

How many of us set target each day? I will sale this much, I will complete this work, I will build 100 clients record today. These all are targets. There is a much happy soul once they have been achieved at the successful task end.

Setting targets each day helps to improve our productivity at the week end, month end and year end.

Here are some information which can be useful.
  • Set targets each day stating why you are going to work or why you should   do these work.   Question yourself.
  • Once you set target for a day, week or year, evaluate the actions at the end.
  • Get to know of the critical paths and evaluate them to achieve at the targets.
  • Measure your activities and take control if there are deviations. Why this deviation has  occurred? Try to find the answers.
  • Make the use of feedback in your actions.
It is necessary that authority and responsibility is delegated to subordinates if you are setting some targets for your workforce. 

Set target for your staff. Look at your operation sides who are involve in execution. Delegate the work, give them authority and responsibility and measure at the day end, or week end or year end and it sure that the results gain will be something different then earlier. You will see the efforts increasing and ultimately the profits.

For targets to be effective it is necessary to take control and have feedback mechanisms. Make sure communication flows to and fro in the system regarding the task or target involve.

If there are deviations get rid of them or rectify them and move forward. It may be possible that at the end some targets are below the expectation; but definitely that outcome will be something bigger than the present actual. All these slight increase in margin has occurred with a good hook of targets, measure, control and feedback only.

It is sure that without a target we all will be hitting outside a bulls eye.

At the end of the day it's not that hard to remember for next day : LET’S GET SET A  GOAL.
