What's in a Name?

Finally I am set to start on this blog. There has been a big question in history saying what’s in a Name? And I now have found there is everything.  Naming your business is like naming your child where you don't want a bad name to reflect on your child's image and the same case goes in the business scenario too. What will happen if we human don’t had any name, how do we able to recognise each other? And for this all parents started to name their kids so that people can recognise us. In a sense those parents are you and the children’s are your business which you have given birth to be successful in the market place and fight with their competitors.

I have seen many businesses fail due to their improper choice. Choosing your business name needs a serious planning, and if chosen in ignorance may lead to returns below your expectations. Business names can be descriptive, suggestive or may also be quite fanciful. So what’s common in all big brands, like Google, Virgin or Facebook? They all are easy to remember and pronounce and quite catchy too. Selecting the right name is crucial in buidling your business brand.

Here are few tips in deciding on right name for your business.

1) Pick the memorable:
Choose a name which is easy to remember. It should be memorable in the minds of your customers. Put yourself as being the customer and how you expect the return.

2) Be weird in choosing:
Choose some sort of weird name like 'skype'. Universal names or identical names are easy to forget by the customers

3 ) Choose broad names leaving space for expansion :
Choose a broad name even if you are engaging in small market niche, it may assist in expansion towards your company product portfolio in future,

4) Be Creative and use your own imagination :
It should be through your own imagination. Make sure your are not infringing any others trademark. Its better to do a research before you choose a name. Check web domain and registered trademarks.

5) Easy to Aware:
Your name should create awareness to your customers what you are selling and what market you want to sell to.

6) Colour is Important:
Make proper usage of colours. Colours can be important in recognising your brand and may assist your business to stand out from your rivals.

7) Take Feedback :
If you are not sure take experts help or have feedbacks from your friends and family members. It’s good if you take some time to give name to your business. Don't rush in.

It’s always good to have a good name which tells something about your products. Remember your business name is the  first sales representative for your company and tells your clients what you do and how you do it.
